Recent events:

March 2008 AWS and CCRIC have been in contact with developers of the Konterra site in Laurel, concerning the unusual level of turbidity (cloudiness) in the water of Indian Creek since December of 2007.
On a site visit March 31 at Konterra, representatives of AWS and CCRIC met with C. Gould and Konterra engineers. A large stormwater pond where fine particles are precipitated out of the water has been completed and the water quality is slowly improving as fewer stormwater discharges are necessary from the Kontera site.

April 2008 Potomac Watershed Cleanup

During the April 5 cleanup along Sunnyside Avenue BCWWG and CCRIC folks found a large trash deposit 200 yards downstream in the creek that needs to be cleaned up at a later time as well.

On April 6 we attempted to clean up a wooded area north of the former "concrete mountain" site. There was a tremendous amount of trash in a large area that was flooded on that day. Subsequent inspection by Masaya Maeda (Anacostia Watershed Society) revelaed that there are two storm drain outfalls along Cherrywood Lane from whence the trash is coming.

We held another cleanup on April 26 in collaboration with the Anacostia Watershed Society and Konterra, who organized 40 volunters from the D.C. region. The cleanup addressed 5 of 9 trash hotspots identified by CCRIC members and AWS staff along Cherrywood Lane.
About 120 bags of trash, a dozen tires and several large items of scrap were removed from the forested area wownstream of several stromwater outfalls from the Springhill Lake apartment complex.
